Discovering Jewellery book review
If, like me, youāre a keen metal detectorist or an antiques collector/dealer, then this really is an excellent book to add to your reference collection. Itās been beautifully put together using good quality paper, sharp, detailed āall colourā photographs and features a good range and quantity of jewellery items - together with concise, relevant descriptions, sizes, makers marks, weights, dates and values are include. To be honest, Iām amazed at how many objects are actually featured (over 1500). One chapter is devoted to rings - which includes 42 pages of posy rings! In regards to posy rings, I like how each full ring has been photographed, then the inner part of the ring is shown in three separate 120 degree arcs so that all of the inscriptions can be clearly seen, this makes identification so much easier.
For folk who deal in antiquities I would say this book is a āmust haveā publication. From my own perspective, I love metal detecting and belong to a club that generally believes that itās more fun to share in the joy of seeing fellow enthusiasts unearthing interesting coins and artefacts etc - in addition to getting an individual thrill from finding something fascinating for oneself. With that outlook in mind, as a club, we enjoy helping each other out when it comes to identifying those sometimes rare and unusual finds - and having this book at hand will certainly help me and fellow members in that quest. I therefore have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this superb publication.
