USER EXPERIENCES

C-Scope

1220R

The CS1220 concept has been around for many years and is a firm favourite amongst non-motion enthusiasts. The 'R' version brings this model up to date with its computerised control but the principle of operation is the same. The CS1220R is really 2 detectors in one with some special ways of working between the 2 channels reading as much information as possible from the signals. The signals from the machine require interpretation by the user so operator skill comes into the equation to a greater degree than it does with a motion machine. There are 3 main ways of using the CS1220R. Most users will choose one which suits them best and stick with that.
Switch the machine to 'set-up'
Set the tune, sensitivity and volume levels for 'G' mode by pressing the 'G' button and using the adjust control as each icon is displayed on the screen.
Do the same for 'D' mode, and that's all you need to do to set up the machine.
Try out each of the three operating modes.
Meter + Audio Mode Switch to that mode. Notice that the ground symbol is displayed on the left side of the screen. This means that the ground setting on the machine should be adjusted to suit the soil type in the area of search and this enables the machine to work at its optimum. Press either of the two push-buttons every few minutes to retune the detector. In this mode the 1220R gives low tones and a meter swing to the left on bad targets, and high tones with a meter swing to the right on probable good targets.
Meter Mode Switch to the mode and adjust the ground point. Note that the ground point can be readjusted at any time during the search with the right hand rotary control. This may be necessary for example when moving from wet to dry ground, or clay to sandy soil. The actual ground setting chosen is displayed as a number between 1 and 99 so that you can note the best ground point for future reference on that particular site. In this mode the audio side of the machine probes deep and gives a positive signal on all targets. The meter swings to the left on small iron based rubbish, and to the right on everything else.
G/D Mode Switch to the mode and note that when the 'G' push button is pressed, the ground symbol is displayed on the left side of the screen. This means that the best ground setting point needs to be found before the detector can operate at its maximum depth potential. In 'G' mode the detector operates at maximum power without any discrimination capability. Press the 'D' button and the discriminate symbol is displayed. Now the right hand knob controls the discrimination point, ie. the point on the scale above which certain types of metal will give an increasing tone (likely to be valuable) while below this point other types of metal will give a decreasing tone (likely to be rubbish).

It is difficult to put one's finger on what makes the 1220 so successful and why so many enthusiasts choose this machine, but the fact is that an enormous number of great treasures have been found by people using a C.Scope CS1220. The technique takes longer to get used to than a motion machine, but once you get the hang of it you'll find that CS1220R is more accurate than other detectors, a real extension of the senses.
