Old Ordnance Survey Maps

A selection of highly detailed "Old Ordnance Survey Maps", taken from the 1/2500 plans and reprinted at approximately 14" to the mile.

We are frequently asked what the maps actually show-if a particular village or street-sometimes-even an individual house! We have been asked to supply the map with the customers house exactly in the centre! Seldom are large scale maps available showing villages - they simply would not be viable . With the best will in the world we cannot answer all these questions or assist in your particular research. But it really is amazing the detail this series of maps show - bearing in mind the low cover price. We will always try and help where possible, but do bear the above points in mind when enquiring.

YORKSHIRE (South)

Wincobank & Meadowhall 1902
This detailed map covers the area now known for the massive Meadowhall Shopping Centre. Coverage stretches from High Wincobank eastward to Tinsley Bridge, and from Newman Road southward to Weedon Street. The Midland Railway runs through the map, with Wincobank & Meadowhall and Brightside stations and the map also shows sections of the Sheffield District Railway, with Tinsley Road station; the GCR line with Tinsley station; and several junctions and connecting curves. Other features include the Sheffield & Tinsley Canal, tramway depot, Wincobank camp, Roman Ridge, River Don, Sewage Works (with sidings), various industrial premises at north Brightside, Jessop's Brightside Works, Brightside Bridge, Tinsley Bridge. We include directory extracts for both Tinsley and Wincobank on the reverse.
