Viking 5

Using a circuit first introduced in 1976, the Viking 5 is a detector that has stood the test of time, and remains relatively unchanged today. It is one of the best selling and successful metal detectors of all time. The Viking 5 is remarkably easy to use, having just two simple tuning controls. It has excellent sensitivity to gold, silver and copper objects, yet discriminates against small iron junk. It is often acclaimed for its ability to detect desirable objects in a heavily mineralised site or one littered with rusty iron, a feat that is often impossible for a detector costing many times the price. These are the reasons that this detector has established itself so successfully within the hobby. Working well on both inland sites and the beach, this detector represents excellent value for money.

The Complete Treasure Hunters Directory and Guide

By Edward Fletcher

Arguably the hobbies most prolific and best author on all manner of metal detecting topics, Pioneering the hobby in the U.K. in the late 1960’s Edward ‘Ted’ Fletcher wrote this little gem of a book in 1978, yet it still stirs one to get up, get out, and enjoy this wonderful hobby of metal detecting. The first ten years of the hobby are featured in a ‘potted’ introduction to the Directory & Guide’. This is followed by legal aspects of the time, a chapter on tides, searching rivers and canals with the heavy duty, yet inexpensive SEA SEARCHER magnet (available from us in the accessories section) There are topics on researching methods together with a chapter devoted to cleaning your finds. Sponsored at the time by various dealers, therefore do checkout the adverts prior to sending any monies for any advertised goods, however, that being said, this little book is well worthy of a read by both the beginner or indeed those who may have missed it the first time around. Stocks are very limited on this one, so order now to avoid disappointment.

A5 format; 100 pages; various sketches throughout; card covers.
