Bridging
the Digital and Analogue Worlds
The
Cortes represents all phases of the latest Tesoro microprocessor
technology. The detector combines user-friendly analogue controls with
the very latest state of the art digital signal processing to create an
easy to use target identification unit.
The
simple and functional meter displays an extensive amount of information.
The top row of the display gives you target information on the broadest
sweeps of the search coil, indicated targets falling into one of four
categories: Iron or foil; Nickel, pull tab, ring, zinc penny, screw cap,
copper cent, silver coin. This brief information leads you to the lower
rows more detailed information.
The
most prominent feature on the lower row is a nine-segment bar graph. It
shows all of the information that the search
coil saw during the complete sweep. Full sweep data is helpful in
determining possible trash/treasure masking and odd shaped iron. The
meter also indicates a peak signal target identification number. The
Cortez will display the largest part of the signal as a two digit number
from 0 to 95. The Iron reading 0 and copper and silver reading up to 95.
By defining the two ends of the scale, higher resolution has been
incorporated into the middle range of the scale the area where pull tabs
and gold rings intermingle. By using the bar graph and peak ID number,
you should be able to visually identify the probable good targets away
from the trash.
To
complement the digital display, Tesoro have added two separate features.
The first, being a three-position notch filter discrimination. Notch
allows the user to eliminate a proportion of the trash target without
affecting other good targets. The second is the Sum Mode. While in this
mode the Cortez averages coil sweeps and activates a multi-tone ID. In
use, the coil sweeps should be shortened to be about 2 to 4 inches. As
the microprocessor is analysing the target data, the ID tones will
change. When the tones stop changing, the Cortez is displaying the most
accurate target identification possible.
