Welsh
History Through Seals
As this booklet seeks to show, the use of seals was by no means confined to the Middle Ages, but continued to be of significance into the twentieth century. Their use in Wales, from the late twelfth century onwards, by corporate bodies of very different functions, and by innumerable individuals both ecclesiastical and secular, make them a veritable "mirror of industry". The seals depicted here are meant also to be representative of the whole of Wales, and indeed of the several repositories, in Wales and beyond, where Welsh seals are now preserved. Wherever possible, the seals illustrated are original impressions rather than modern casts, and unless stated to the contrary they are reproduced at their actual size. 107 illustrations in both colour and black & white. 48 pages. Paperback. £3.00 + £1.50 p&p U. K. (Ref: b0221) |
