by Rosemary Cramp and Roger Miket Describes
and illustrates part of the extensive collection on permanent loan to
the Museum of Antiquities, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. These are non-numismatic
small finds and catalogued by Roger Miket, together with a selection of
carved and inscribed stones by Professor Rosemary Cramp. The
small finds come from far and wide, amongst them being some remarkable
objects. Features of the catalogue are the smallest of several cremation
urns containing a cruciform brooch deformed by the intense heat! A
bronze chain of interlocking S-links, bridle bits, a nail cleaner, ear
pendants, wrist clasps and a selection of brooches of varying designs.
Locations and the dates found are included in the text. The
stones are of relatively regional; provenance and these include examples
of sculpture from the "Golden Age" of Northumbria which are of
national significance in the history of Anglo-Saxon art. Price: £5.00 + £1.25 p&p U. K. (Ref: b0071)
